LET’S DISCUSS GOALS!
The most common goal intervals are tagged as “short-term” and “long-term”, but what does that mean?
So many time frames are thrown around when it comes to setting goals. The most important thing to remember is that YOU are setting your goals. Instead of thinking of them in terms of 1 year, 5 year, 10 year timeframes; I challenge you to think of your goals in levels.
For illustration purpose, I want you to choose the ONE goal that is most important for you to achieve; write that at the top of a piece of paper (or other note taking forum). From there, I want you to break that goal down further; what steps will you need to take in order to reach that goal. I want you to break that goal all the way down to the smallest tasks. Make sure you organize these tasking goals in order of completion.
For example, you want to buy a car… in order to do that you need money… but you also need your license and this will involve buying insurance and having money to maintain and repair the car. So that main goal is buying a car, but some of the goals under that would be getting your license, saving up the money, finding insurance. Goal under that would be studying for your license, coming up with a savings plan, and researching and picking insurance. The next step would be setting actual timelines for those goals. But such an important part that people don’t consider, is reevaluation. If you miss a milestone, reevaluate immediately; come up with a new plan/timeline.
Learn to budget your time and money in order to maximize your return on achieving those goals. I’m about to start a challenge with my accountability partner where we reevaluate where we are with achieving our goals coming up on the end of the year. And I’m so excited to have someone in my corner who cares about me reaching my goals as much as I do, and vice versa! We need a tribe!!!
So I challenge you to find a tribe (even if it just starts with one other person), have your own goals challenge and hold each other accountable! Feel free to reach out and let me know how I can hold you accountable for your goals in this FB post or this LinkedIn post!
